St. Paul’s provides multiple opportunities for members to share God’s love and see His presence in the faces of those served. Members have traveled with teams to Jamaica, Habitat for Humanity work sites, Bear Creek Camp, Red Bird Work Camp in Appalachia, and Tanzania. To learn about future opportunities, contact the church office.
Bear Creek Camp
Bear Creek Camp and Conference Center, located near Wilkes Barre, PA is the outdoor ministry site of the Northeastern and Southeastern Synods of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Situated on nearly 3,000 acres of forest, streams and fields, campers spend their days filled with activities designed to help them grow in their understanding of God, self, creation and community.
St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church has an on-going relationship with Bear Creek Camp, in that our members have spent a considerable amount of time there on retreats and work projects including a ministry to build four Adirondack shelters, thereby increasing possibilities for outdoor ministry. For the past three years, our confirmation classes, parents and other volunteers have been experiencing an inter-generational ministry building these shelters.
Red Bird Work Camp – Beverly, Kentucky
Red Bird Work Camp is a Methodist mission site in the coal mining region of eastern Kentucky. It provides assistance in the basic needs that the people in the surrounding counties lack, due to inaccessibility or economics. There is a hospital, dental clinic, food pantry, thrift shop and volunteer work camp for the repairing/remodeling of homes.
The repairs are wide and varied—roof repairs, sub-flooring and linoleum, drywall, painting, window and door replacement, decks and handicap ramps for wheelchair access. St. Paul’s volunteers have done them all. It’s a twelve hour drive to Red Bird but when you get there, you’re greeted with a warm meal, a comfortable bunk and greetings from all the others from around the country who have come to serve those less fortunate.
Jamaica Medical-Dental Mission
H2 Jamaica (Hope & Health):
Each February, since 2004, members of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church have been participating in a medical mission trip to central Jamaica. Our members join with other Christians from all over the US who share a variety of skills and gifts (both medical and other types) to bring HOPE and HEALTH to those less fortunate in Jamaica. Additionally, this week long adventure serves to deepen spiritual friendships in fellowship with other believers, both American and Jamaican.
Over the years more than a dozen youth members (at least 15 years old) have participated in these trips, sometimes with a parent. It serves as a great ‘1st mission trip’ and broadens their perspective to appreciate how blessed we are in our Fleetwood Community.
Please consider joining other Christians serving in an impactful and fulfilling manner. Information will be made available periodically throughout the year as we firm up our roster each October OR contact Rich Reddy or Al Ottinger.
